INFATUATE

Date: November 1, 1944
Operation Name: Infatuate
Location: Westkapelle, Walcheren Island, The Netherlands

Orders:
Antwerp was captured in September, but the Germans still held much territory in and around the Scheldt Estuary (that covers its approach from the sea). The opening of the port of Antwerp has become vital to the Allied war effort since it is the second largest port in Europe and was captured virtually intact.

Throughout October a number of British and Canadian operations have captured German positions around the Scheldt and now only the island of Walcheren (that is at the mouth of the Scheldt and effectively blocks access to Antwerp) remains to be dealt with.

In October Walcheren was heavily bombed by the Allies, which has resulted in breaches in the dykes causing most of the island to be flooded, except the high points that the Germans have heavily fortified. Plans for the capture of Walcheren (Operation Infatuate) call for assaults at a number of points in the west and south; you are assigned to attack from the west in the vicinity of the town of Westkapelle with orders to capture the area from Domburg (in the north) to Zoutelande (in the south).

Intel:
You should land your forces near Westkapelle, there are some powerful naval artillery batteries to the north and south that could seriously damage your landing craft.
