Center Iraq, March, 2003

[Saddam's speech in Baghdad]... Yes, my dear officers of the Republican Guard. We are again invaded by the enemies of the Arab people. This is like a tribal affair; the son is now trying to end what the father in the past did not: overrun Baghdad and take down the Ba'ath revolution. But yes, fortunately I'm still here to guide you on how to win this war.

The two defensive rings in the South of the Baghdad sector will show how the Iraqis can fight! And you, my brave men will show the Americans the high cost of an attack on Basra. Saddam needs enough time to abandon the city.
