Diary of Dead Men ---- Major Tommy Nighthall, Royal Fusilers tank corps/ It was all too simple, our platoon of tanks rushing a German Tiger. In our minds we could not believe it just sat there in front of us out-numbered 5 to 1. The first shots of our Crusaders hit it and of course we expected it to 'brew up'. Nothing of the sort mate. Return fire quickly cut through our Crusadar platoon and what was seen as an advantage of numbers was a charade. Major Bretmann try'd to move away but that 88mm ended any chance of that. With His tank burning I knew we was next and the turret of the Tiger turned to blast Us. Corporal Chips fired our gun 2 more times with no effect the Shells just glancing off the German Monster then the shell from the Tiger tore through us, Chips basically split in half, Driver Mike hit with metal fragments as Rhodes. My leg was bloody and of course I could not feel my right arm. Smoke poured from us and I was able to crawl out of the tank and fell hard on the ground, the smoke choking me so I crawled away from it. No longer a threat the Tiger rushed by off to slaughter some more of our forces. I haven't long now I know for I have lost too much blood. If anyone reads this tell Command we need a better tank otherwise we are all Dead Men.
