September 8th 1942 The 8th USAAF which was beginning to make a Major impact on the War was now thrust into a situation. Lord Winston Churchill still trying to gain back respect after the 'Bismarck/Hood/King of Wales' fiasco had ordered an attack on the French coast at Dieppe. Now the forces once ashore realized they were in trouble as the Germans poured Panzers and the Luftwaffe into the area. A disaster was emerging and Winston would be in even a bigger doghouse when it was over. The Allies ashore would have to be sacrificed but a show had to be made that a total effort was put into saving them. General Eaker was of course irked at having to cancel His missions in the Sand to save Winstons butt but orders from the Top had to be followed. So the Bombers of the 8th headed for the French Coast, to 'Save the Day'.
