July 11th 1942 Though the Axis forces had many ports receiving supplies for the Armies in the sand none was more important than the Tobruk area. Now the Americans along with the French were going to attack it and destroy the fuel depots there. In England Britian was almost ready to start making a major contribution in the War once again with the RAF but for the moment it would just be ground forces of the Americans and French. Of course the Italians and Germans were not just going to let the Allies waltz in and they would put up a bitter fight here in the sand. The 'Bittossi force which had been a major force in chasing Bernard Montgomery's 8th Army tanks into the sand and then destroying them was stationed at Tobruk. The Brits did not have the 8th USAAF or the Mustangs to battle in the skies at that time, the Americans now did. Hopefully things would go better for General Leslie then they did for Bernard.
