The Dam, afthermath;
Despite the introduction of a new commander and a veteran unit in 10 February, it was not until darkness had fallen that the leading regiment 309 Inf. Approached the Schwammenuel.
Sending two groups of the 1st battallion onto the dam, expecting the Germans to blow the Dam at any moment but they have done all the damage they intended to do: the damage didn't cause a major cascade of water,
but a steady and powerful flow that would create a long lasting flood all the way down the River Roer.
The Schwammeneuel's reservoir would take weeks to empty.
Operation Veritable could no longer go ahead that day and was postponed.
