Ah, General. I hope your leave in Paris was pleasant? To business.
As you know, the British continue to be a thorn in our side. The Emperor politely asked the King of Italy to allow us to use Sicily and Libya as bases from which to attack British Egypt, but the fool refused in such insulting terms that we had no choice but to invade Italy. We and our Austria allies made good progress initially, but the Italian defences have stiffened as we approach Rome. Now the British are sending a large expedition to assist the Italians, planning to land in the far south to avoid our aircraft operating out of Tunis. In order to preempt this, we have made a landing on the coast near Naples. Your men will follow up this landing and force your way through the Italian defences to capture Salerno. This area is held by several powerful Italian reserve units, unfortunately, and the Italians are likely to react aggressively to our landing. Oh, and by the way, our ships have been firing constantly in support of the landing, and I'm afraid many of them are almost out of munitions, so do be frugal, yes?
