Stalingrad, 1942
In spite of your efforts, commander, things are not going well. Of course, you do not need me to tell you. Since their entry into the suburb of Dar Gova a few weeks ago, the German 6th Army has become well entrenched in Stalingrad. Still, we have managed to turn every building into a fortress and every street into a shooting gallery.

The Germans have some excellent equipment. Our intelligence tells us that they have the new Tiger tanks which can destroy our T-34s and KV-1s in a single shot. Still, they have few. We have many.

All is in your hands to spring the trap and sever their lines of communication back to the West. Instead of destroying the German forces in the city, we will leave the least amount of men we can to defend Stalingrad. We will leave the bare minimum required to keep the Germans tied up. Meanwhile, we will crash against their northern and southern flanks, both of which are guarded by less well trained and less well equiped Rumanian troops such as their 3rd Army to the Northwest of Stalingrad. We will trap the Germans between the Volga and the Chir, cut them off from their supplies and obliterate them without remorse.

If you don't, then your fate, and probably mine as well will be severe.

Once again, the fate of the Rodina is in your hands.
