Leros
November 12, 1943

After a ceasefire with the new Italian government Marshal Pietra Badoglia, the British and Greeks attempted to take control of parts of the Aegean islands. In September 1943 they sent troops to the nearby Dodecanese archipelago near the Turkish coast. The British landed at Astipalea, Kos, Kalymnos, Leros and Simi. But the Germans took control until September 19 without encountering resistance, Karpathos, Kasos, and Cyclades and Sporades. After the Germans seized the islands of Rhodes and Kos in September and October, it was Leros.
