Alam Halfa
October 23, 1942

In the second half of May, the German African Corps occupied a position in the Gaza Strip. June 20 the Germans won Tobruk. Then the Corps moved towards Egypt, finally stopping at El Alamein. Field Marshal Rommel needed extra strength in Africa. He was promised to send Gen. Ramcke's Parachute Brigade.

Operational tasks:
Rommel, before landing for treatment in Germany, predicted a British offensive against El Alamein, and began preparations for defense at the beginning of September, planning to build powerful barricades formed in several rectangles surrounded by strong barbed wire. Our sappers showed the arsenal of their abilities by building "devil's gardens", so called boxes, which seemed to be a barrier that could not be crossed for the Brits. Our task is to stop the British offensive.
Our division was strengthened by a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun squadron 2cm Flak 38 (Sf) auf PzKpfw I Ausf.A - Flakpanzer I.
