Continuing the Warsaw action, the General Staff decided to carry out an offensive in the direction of Suwalki and Olity, assisted by a blow to Grodno. It was practically a copy of Pisudski's strike of 1920. The Red Army lost strategic offensive capabilities, but this did not mean that it was unable to carry out local counterattacks with which to count.

For this there was an exceptionally disadvantageous position of the Polish forces, which moved north and south with deep interwoven Soviet units among them, whose size and quality were not much known. It was hoped they were not some titans.
