The lack of proper attention paid to Warmia and Mazurko took revenge in the spring of 1946, when the remnants of the Soviet corps participating in the "Eastern Mist", suddenly passed through the Masurian forests and faced Ostroleka, Ciechanow or Dzialdowa, posing an immediate threat to Modlin and Warsaw itself.

In order to increase their chances, the Soviets led to a number of provocations and communist fights in the vicinity of the capital, on the basis of which were formed militias and commandos in order to enter Warsaw in time so that the Red Army could come "with help" to Polish comrades rather than as occupiers.
