"Mars" - unlike "Saturn" - did not bring the Red Army's boon and is still largely ignored by Moscow historians. In less than a month, the Soviet Union lost more than 40,000 soldiers and 1600 combat vehicles without achieving any significant territorial gains.

In the last weeks of 1942, the "GD" division spent on replenishing the damaged states and further expansion, including - not found in other divisions - IV Artillery Battalion with 170mm guns. At the end of January 1943, the division received a second panzer battalion - which allowed the formation of a tank regiment. Among them appeared the first "Tigers".

At the same time, "GD" soldiers was transferred to Belgorod and Kharkov, where - after the collapse of Stalingrad - it began to be dangerous.
