At the turn of March and April 1919 Polish troops grouped on the line of Jasiold - Oginski Canal. The left wing of Polish forces was bordered by a zone of German troops, concentrated east of Grodno - in Skidlo. Bolshevik forces controlled the areas along Vilnius, Lida, Baranawicze and Luniniec. Lida region, it was a weak point of the Soviet zone, since the Polish forces had wedged in it from the south. By decision of the Chief Commander Polish troops were to attack Vilnius and at the same time launch an offensive on Lida to secure the rear.

Germans stationed in and around Grodno should not be annoyed and they themselves will not be in trouble.
