The French government has for some time been seriously concerned about the flooding of Europe with cheap sparkling wine from the USSR, blatantly called "Champagnekoje". A French military mission with generals Weygand and De Gaulle arrived in Warsaw to try to talk to the Soviets on a neutral ground. When, however, at a reception at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Weygand loudly told Molotov where Stalin could hit a stoppage on that "Igristoje", it was known that the talks were over.

In this connection, the French turned to Poland to take a joint preventive action against the USSR. At the end of August, on the eastern Polish border, two French armored brigades and dozens of planes were registered.
