Report of the G-2 Division for SHAEF - October 12, 1945
Attn .: Commander of the 6th US Army Corps.

Subject: Opposition forces in Warsaw and Modlin:

Red Army Command, treats the defense of Warsaw very prestigious, although recent events prevent them from operating effectively in Poland. The NKVD forces have no control over the Polish underground, which in turn goes to open combat with the Russians.

Two armored corps were arraived in the Warsaw area: "Kursk" and "Stalingrad". These are newly formed units, but their cast are made up of veterans fighting with Germany.

Like Lodz, the first line of defense was built before the city. But it is disproportionately weaker here. Blocking by the guerrillas of supply lines from the east does not allow for strengthening of the wings and forcing the Russians to take food from the north (East Prussia). Therefore, after taking over Warsaw, further action should be taken in this direction, with particular emphasis on the former Modlin fortress, which is an important point of communication and supply.
