Report of the G-2 Division for SHAEF - July 17, 1945
Attn:: Commander of the 6th US Army Corps

Yesterday, the positive result of the "M" project was widely echoed among the commanders
Red Army. In Moscow, there is an increasingly strong division in the military and political leadership. Some believe that a peaceful exit from the situation must be sought, while retaining limited territorial gains, but some will want a definite blow to the west - regardless of the existence of our new weapon.

It seems that the other option will win. As a result, attempts to rebound Berlin can be expected in a very short period of time. Stalin does not want to listen to his generals, who are advised to pull more forces - insist on immediate action - regardless of the loss.

It should be emphasized that most of the soldiers who entered Berlin had already been sent to Russia, acknowledging that they had "imperialist" infiltration. Their fate is unknown. New recruits have come to Germany recently, and now troops are being formed to fight rape to replace veterans. All indications are that our forces will face the so-called "human wave" phenomenon that they have not yet met. Perhaps it would have been advisable to consult the former German commanders on this issue.
