The end of combat struggles in this area occurred only on 8 November. 1 Canadian Army lost about 13,000 killed, wounded and missing. Although the action ended without our participation, it was the Poles who successfully launched this operation. They did the task themselves, forcing the Germans to escape through the Skaldy bottleneck to the island of Walcheren.
