Effective defense of Cracow not only allowed for regaining control over the railway line to Rzeszw and further east, but also broke the German concept of the Blitzkrieg - at least in the south. Here the war changed into a series of local skirmishes, but now the Poles were able to divert where they wanted, balancing the German advantage.
What's more, the Slovaks were less and less eager to help the Germans - the fighting was still close to their borders, the promised success was not, and the second week of the war passed.
