And the SS Armored Corps, which was already in place in mid-February, cooperated with the Hungarian units of the 2nd Armored Division to attack, aiming at destroying the Soviet foothold formed by the 7th Army of the Guards on the Horn River. Until February 25th, the task was successfully completed and the Russians were thrown into Esztergone, but the price paid by the SS Corps was a loss of nearly three thousand men. Participating in this attack, the 1st Armored Corps of the SS troubled the higher Russian command and betrayed the German intentions, while depriving the surprise effect in the future operation. This gave the Soviet troops time to prepare the necessary defense and draw down numerous meals.
At the beginning of March the 6th SS Armored Division was completed, which was grouped in the area between Lake Balaton and Velencei. In addition to the 1st and 2nd Armored Corps of the SS with the same composition as during operations in the Ardennes, Dietrich also subordinated Dietrich to two cavalry divisions, three infantry divisions, and 1, 3, 6 and 23 Armored Divisions. The strength of these units was much less than the full-time jobs in both hardware and in people.
